Budget Redmi phone with huge battery appears online, could be Redmi 8A

The Redmi A series is Xiaomi‘s cheapest phone family (aside from the Redmi Go), generally offering a solid spec list for around $100 or below. It looks like the Chinese brand is stepping things up with its next budget device though, which seems to be the Redmi 8A.

A new Redmi smartphone, packing the model number M1908C3KE, has been listed on China’s TENAA website. The listing shows off a phone with what appears to be a waterdrop notch, blue rear cover, and Redmi branding on both the front and back.

The phone’s core specs are decidedly low-end, featuring a 6.2-inch 720p LCD screen, unnamed octa-core 2Ghz processor, 2GB to 4GB of RAM, and 16GB to 64GB of expandable storage.

Other notable details include a 12MP single rear camera, 8MP selfie camera, Android Pie (no Android 10 here yet), and a headphone port. The phone doesn’t appear to have a fingerprint scanner either, much like previous Redmi A devices.

Editor’s Pick

This all comes together to suggest that we’re looking at the Redmi 8A rather than a mid-range or high-end Redmi release. But the phone is also packing a 5,000mAh battery, which is 1,000mAh more than the Redmi 7A and Redmi Note 8.

The big battery combined with modest specs mean we can likely expect two days of battery life, if not more. In fact, this would also make it the Xiaomi phone with the biggest battery in 2019.

Xiaomi’s Redmi 7A starts at just ~$85 in India, so you can probably expect a similar price tag for this apparent Redmi 8A.
